The current five-year offshore drill- ing plan, finalized last year by Presi- dent Barack Obama after a multiyear process, did not include any oppor- tunities to drill in the Atlantic Ocean. Obama took additional steps to protect the Atlantic Ocean, using section 12a of the Outer Continental Shelf Lands Act to permanently protect portions of the ocean from drilling. President Donald Trump signed an executive order this spring directing the Interior Department to revisit the plan with the goal of expanding drilling off U.S. coasts. McAuliffe joins a bipartisan group of East Coast governors who have urged the Trump administration not to expand drilling in the Atlantic, includ- ing the governors of Maryland, New Jersey, North Carolina and South Caro- lina, according to the Sierra Club. Belize PM Commits To Moratorium on Offshore Oil Prime Minister Dean Barrow offi- cially announced his administration's commitment and plan to legislate an indefinite moratorium on offshore oil activity in Belize's territorial sea, in- cluding its Exclusive Economic Zone. The Belize Coalition to Save Our Natural Heritage welcomed this deci- sion and saw it as a commitment by the government of Belize to fully incor- porate the value of natural resources in developing a sustainable economy. In response to a request by the co- alition, Barrow has agreed that a draft bill will be provided to the coalition in advance to allow time for comment prior to presentation in the House of Representatives October 2017. Barrow further committed to ensur- ing that the moratorium is fully legis- lated by November of this year. Trelleborg Supplies Product Suite for Prelude Trelleborg's marine systems opera- tion has supplied a suite of products to Shell's Prelude FLNG facility, the largest offshore facility ever construct- ed. Prelude, which is 488 m long, 74 m wide and made with more than 260,000 tons of steel, will extract and liquefy natural gas from a site in north- west Australia. Trelleborg supplied its gas transfer technology and SafePilot navigational and piloting systems for Prelude. N-Sea Supports Subsea Soft Yoke Installation in Cameroon N-Sea has begun work in the Cam- eroonian offshore market via a con- tract win with the Dutch offshore lift- ing and transportation company Jumbo Offshore. Phase one was completed in mid-July. The project is part of the Hilli Episeyo subsea soft yoke installation. N-Sea's workscope comprises diving and ROV support and performance of all subsea installation of the soft yoke system. The activity N-Sea will perform on the floating liquified natural gas (FLNG) mooring and loading facility includes seabed measuring, mattress placement, anchor base and pile po- sitioning support and pile sleeve sedi- ment removal. Final connection between the yoke and FLNG will be undertaken by N- Sea later in 2017. ST
