The agreement will result in 25 authorized Wärt- silä turbocharger workshops with an expanded service and maintenance in addition to the 110 existing ABB turbo- charging service stations. Marine Renewables Canada Leads Trade Mission to Ireland Canada's national wave energy group, Marine Renew- ables Canada, received support from the governments of Canada and Nova Scotia to lead a trade mission of 32 delegates to the fourth European Wave and Tidal Energy Conference (EWTEC) in Cork, Ireland. Delegates explored export, investment and research collaboration opportunities in wave, tidal and river current energy to sharpen Canada's cutting-edge in the field. The United Arab Emirates Wants a Seat On the IMO Executive Council The United Arab Emirates (UAE) is the only Arab can- didate for Category B membership on the IMO Executive Council, the authorized international legislative body for maritime laws and conventions related to navigation safety and the marine environment. UAE, which hosts 20 and op- erates 77 global ports, is competing for the council position with 11 countries, including Germany, Sweden, the Nether- lands, Brazil, Argentina, France and Australia. Members will be elected at the 30th Ordinary General Assembly meeting in November. Homeland Receives Damen 3307 Patrol Vessel The third Damen 3307 patrol vessel has been delivered to Homeland Integrated Offshore Services Ltd. of Lagos, Ni- geria. A fourth is currently under construction. Guardian 3 now provides security and other support services to inter- national offshore oil companies off the coast of Nigeria in the Gulf of Guinea, in cooperation with the Nigerian Navy. Kongsberg K-Fleet Voyage for EU MRV Regulations K-Fleet Voyage, Kongsberg's digital application for moni- toring ship fuel consumption and emissions, has been veri- fied by Ecoxy AS for use under the EU Emission Trading Scheme (ETS) and the new EU Monitoring, Reporting and Verification (EU-MRV) for maritime transport regulation (2015/757). The regulation aims to quantify and reduce CO 2 emissions from the shipping industry. EU-MRV will be fully effective January 1, 2018, when large ships using EU ports will be required to report their verified annual emissions and other relevant information. According to the third IMO GHG study, maritime transport emits approximately 1,000 million tons of CO 2 annually. ST Acteon to Purchase Viking SeaTech And Sell Mirage Machines Ltd. Acteon Group Ltd. has agreed to purchase mooring ser- vices company Viking SeaTech from Actuant Corp., gaining a local presence in both Australia and Indonesia. It will also sell Mirage Machines Ltd. to Actuant Corp. The two transac- tions will close simultaneously and are subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions. Sonardyne Sonars Installed to Protect New Middle East Energy Facility Sonardyne International Ltd.'s underwater intruder de- tection sonar technology, Sentinel, has been installed on the site of a new critical national infrastructure facility in the Middle East to monitor unauthorized access from the sea. The program of work included the supply of multiple in-water sonars and redundant control room equipment in order to provide uninterrupted situational awareness over a large waterfront. ClassNK Paves the Way for HKC Verification Expansion to Southeast Asia ClassNK has completed the document review for a ship recycling facility plan submitted by Tsuneishi Ship Recycling Inc., verifying that the facility is in line with the Hong Kong International Convention for the Safe and Environmentally Sound Recycling of Ships (HKC). The facility, to be built in Negros Occidental, Philippines, is the first application by a recycling facility in Southeast Asia submitted to ClassNK for verification, as well as the first facility designed to comply with the HKC standard from its planning stage. ABB's Onboard DC Grid Integrates Energy Storage On Hybrid Wind Farm Vessel A wind farm service operation vessel under construction in Turkey will be outfitted with ABB's onboard DC grid pow- er distribution to enable the cost-efficient integration of bat- teries into a new hybrid vessel. The two sets of batteries will be used primarily for spinning reserve and peak shaving. The power system will be controlled by an integrated power and energy management system (PEMS), enabling the gen- erators to run at variable speeds and charge the batteries. Milaha Launches Container and Reefer Services Between Pakistan, Qatar and Turkey Qatar-based maritime transport and logistics conglomer- ate Milaha launched the first direct reefer service between Qatar and Turkey and a direct container service between Pakistan and Qatar. Reefer service will have departures ev- ery 20 to 25 days with a transit time of 11 days. The con- tainer service, PQX (Pakistan Qatar Express Service), will operate weekly with a transit time of four days, the fastest direct connection between the two countries.
