people Ron Allen has been appointed director of engineering at L-3 Klein Associates Inc. (Salem, New Hampshire), where he will oversee the engineering design and development of sonar systems, the company said in July. Allen previously worked as the engineering manager for the Geophysical Products Group at Teledyne Benthos. SevenCs (Hamburg, Germany) has ap- pointed Bjoern Roehlich as sales direc- tor. Roehlich, who started his career as a German Navy officer, has experience in ECDIS, vessel traffic services and simu- lator markets. Mike Chapman, founder of MECCO Inc., in July joined So- nardyne Inc. (Houston, Texas) as a sales agent. Based in Du- vall, Washington, Chapman has more than 30 years of expe- rience in the marine and oceanographic industries. He will focus on developing business in western North America. Fred Maguire in July joined Verrex (Mountain side, New Jersey) as senior sales executive, focused on providing the firm's suite of audiovisual products to the oil and gas mar- ket. He was most recently director of sales and marketing at Flotation Technologies Inc. SEA TECHNOLOGY SERVICES THE WORLD Professor Mark Bailey in August became director of the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH). In 2002, he was appointed di- rector of CEH's Oxford, England, site before becoming sci- ence director for the CEH Biodiversity Programme in 2003 and acting director of CEH in 2011. He had worked for near- ly 30 years with the University of California, most recently serving as the CFO of Lawrence Berkeley National Lab. Tracey Moriarty joined the Bureau of Ocean Energy Man- agement (BOEM) as the public affairs program manager for the agency's Herndon, Virginia, office. Moriarty previously oversaw outreach and media engagement for the U.S. Na- vy's energy and environmental policy and programs. UTEC (Houston, Texas) in July named Ranald Blair as chief surveyor of the group. Located in UTEC's Aberdeen, Scotland, office, he will work on global standardization of operating pro- cedures and products, and associated training of personnel. Ron Vollenga of Outsource-IT Management has been named secretary of Broadband@Sea for HME (Rotterdam, Nether- lands). Vollenga will coordinate the activities and events on behalf of HME, which remains the owner of the platform.
