Northrop Grumman Delivers Nationwide AIS to US Coast Guard Northrop Grumman Corp. (Falls Church, Virginia) has completed core capability development of the Nationwide AIS and delivered it to the U.S. Coast Guard to begin formal government testing prior to deployment, the company an- nounced in July. Nationwide AIS will field a network infrastructure that collects, stores, processes and disseminates AIS data. It is a two-way maritime digital communication system that queries incoming vessels to check vessel identity, position, speed, course, destination, and manifest and cargo data. The information will be combined with other government intelligence and surveillance data and shared with autho- rized government operators to enhance maritime situational awareness. L-3 MariPro Installs RSN Cabled Observatory L-3 MariPro (Goleta, California) has completed installa- tion of the in-water primary infrastructure for the Regional Scale Nodes (RSN), the cabled observatory component of the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Ini- tiative. The University of Washington is leading the RSN's con- struction and early operations. The installation consisted of more than 850 kilometers of submarine cable, of which more than 280 kilometers were buried to 1,500 meters depth, including seven nodes installed in depths from 113 to 2,900 meters. The nodes will provide power and data connectivity to ocean instruments. LAUNCHING A NEW ERA OF OCEANOGRAPHY Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI) Portland Pacific City Regional Scale Nodes (RSN) Leveraging over 50 years of experience in developing and installing deepwater sensor systems, L-3 MariPro is proud to have successfully deployed the primary infrastructure for the University of Washington-led cabled observatory component of the National Science Foundation's Ocean Observatories Initiative (OOI). As a leader in developing ocean observatories and cable sensor systems, L-3 is helping to launch a new era of oceanography. Learn more at www.L-3com.com/MariPro.
