(Singapore) was awarded in November the Maritime and Port of Authority of Singapore's Maritime Innovation & Technology (MINT) Fund for the development of a ballast water treatment system (BWTS). LiqTech will be test bedding its silicon carbide membrane to confgure a fltration solution for BWTS to meet the International Maritime Organization's standards. LiqTech will commence its development of the BWTS this quarter 2012. UK Launches Vessel-Effciency Competition Cobham Rebrands Thrane & Thrane as SATCOM Unit Cobham plc (Dorset, England) has established a new strategic business unit, Denmark-based Cobham SATCOM, that combines the group's satellite communications businesses, following the acquisition and integration of Thrane & Thrane A/S (Lyngby, Denmark) earlier this year. Thrane & Thrane began trading as Cobham SATCOM in November and will form the core of the new business unit. The U.K. government's Technology Strategy Board has launched a competition into vessel effciency, with up to £8 million available in funding. It will be open for proposals from mid-January until mid-March 2013. The competition is pitched at the U.K. marine industry as a whole, including shipbuilders, military suppliers and offshore renewables.
