www.sea-technology.com October 2017 / st 35 Canada Awards Contract to Thales As Part of National Shipbuilding Strategy The government of Canada is delivering on its commit- ment to renew the Royal Canadian Navy's fleet through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS). A contract has been awarded to the joint venture of Thales Canada Inc. and Thales Australia Ltd. for in-service support, including refit, repair and maintenance and training for the Arctic and Off- shore Patrol Ships (AOPS) and Joint Support Ships (JSS). Thales is required to compete this work among subcon- tractors. The in-service support work required to support and maintain the AOPS and JSS is to be carried out in Canada, unless a ship requires work maintenance while overseas. 700 Visitors Attend US Navy ANTX BPCE The Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport and the Naval Surface Warfare Center (NSWC) Panama City Division in Panama City, Florida, hosted the 2017 Advanced Naval Technology Exercise (ANTX) Bat- tlespace Preparation in a Contested Environment (BPCE) in August. Approximately 700 visitors from the Department of Defense, industry and academia attended the two-day event. Participating companies included: Boeing, Aviation Sys- tem Engineering Co. (ASEC), Domo Tactical Communica- tions (DTC), General Dynamics Mission Systems, Autono- mous Surface Vessels, Hydroid, L3 Technologies, iXblue, Power Docks, Adaptive Methods, DeTect Intelligent Sen- sors, Engineering Professional Services, Leidos, Northrup Grumman, QinetiQ North America, and SRI International. ANTX provides a low-risk environment in which scien- tists and engineers may evaluate their technological inno- vations at the research and development level before their technologies become militarized and integrated at the op- erational level. Contract Modification for GD Electric Boat For Virginia-Class Subs General Dynamics Electric Boat has been awarded a contract modification by the U.S. Navy to provide research and development and lead-yard services for Virginia-class nuclear-powered attack submarines. Electric Boat will un- dertake development studies and other work related to sub- marine design improvements. Additionally, Electric Boat will perform research and development work required to evaluate new technologies to be inserted in newly built Virginia-class ships, including the Virginia Payload Module. Servowatch IPMS Installation For Philippine Navy Servowatch has again been selected by Hyundai to sup- ply its Integrated Platform Management System (IPMS) for installation into the Philippine Navy's Future Frigate pro- gram to be built in Hyundai's Ulsan facility, the largest ship- yard in the world. The new frigates are expected to be a variant on Hyun- dai's own HDF-3000 FFX-I multipurpose frigate. ST navy currents
