to take place in spring or summer of 2014. The new ship, which will be the ninth of its kind to employ the DSHIP in Germany, is operated by RF Forschungsschiffahrt GmbH (Bremen, Germany), which owns the present Sonne re- search vessel. GE Acquires PRESENS in Norway GE Oil & Gas (Florence, Italy) in August added PRESENS (Oslo, Norway) to its Measurement & Control business to expand the company's presence in Norway. PRESENS employs 36 people in total and provides sen- sors for the oceanographic and subsea oil and gas industries. SeaZone Data Now Covers South America SeaZone Solutions (Wallingford, England) data was made available for South America in late July. The addition is charted raster covering various locations across the waters adjacent to South America. This follows the recently acquired mapping coverage of Canadian and French waters and includes content from the former French colonies. SeaZone's data coverage includes more than 40 percent of the ocean. OSIL to Represent Optimare SpillWatch System OSIL Ltd. (Hampshire, England) has been named the exclusive global representative for Optimare Marine Mess- systeme GmbH & Co. KG's (Bremerhaven, Germany) Spill- Watch noncontact oil detection system. The SpillWatch system remotely monitors hydrocarbons and oil on water in real time, by detecting fluorescence pro- duced as a result of LED-based excitation. SpillWatch sen- sors can be stand-alone or used within a network of mount- ed sensors interconnected by the SpillMaster software. Acoustic Research Underway at HR Wallingford HR Wallingford (Wallingford, England) in July set aside £100,000 in funding for its scientists to conduct underwater acoustic research that will investigate the measurement of cohesive sediment properties using high-frequency under- water acoustics. The primary aim of this two-year pilot project is to de- rive semiempirical algorithms that can be used to calibrate Doppler sonar signals in terms of the relationship between acoustic backscatter intensity and suspended sediment con- centration using results obtained from field measurement campaigns. An additional objective of the study will be the development of a best practice approach to the acquisition and processing of data from this type of instrument. HR Wallingford is seeking industry collaboration on the project. UK-Based Kittiwake Purchased by Parker Hannifin Parker Hannifin Corp. (Cleveland, Ohio) acquired in July Kittiwake Group (Littlehampton, England), which includes Kittiwake Developments Ltd., Kittiwake Procal Ltd., Kitti- wake Holroyd Ltd. and Kittiwake Inc. Kittiwake and its condition-monitoring technologies, including wear debris sensors, oil testing and analysis in- strumentation, and acoustic, vibration and gas emissions monitoring sensors, will be integrated into Parker's filtration group, which covers the commercial marine, oil and gas, power generation and defense markets. Kittiwake employs 95 people; Parker employs approximately 58,000. n -DFN )LVKHU 3UHVLGHQW ´)LVKHUV PDNH WKH PRVW SRZHUIXO DQG UXJJHGO\ FRQVWUXFWHG XQGHUZDWHU PHWDO GHWHFWRUV \RX FDQ RZQµ 'LYHU 0DJ 'LYHU +HOG 0DJ $8,995 8QGHUZDWHU 0HWDO 'HWHFWRU 3XOVH ; 2QO\ $2,095 Fishers Pulse 6X and 8X detectors detect all metals, on land and under- water.
