ST Conference Preview Ocean Innovation 2012 U nder the theme of "Extreme Survival: Innovations in Training, Knowledge and Equipment," Ocean Inno vation 2012 will offer an opportunity to reflect on advances and innovations in offshore sur- vival. The conference will be held October 21 to 24 at the Sheraton Hotel in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. Now its 10th year, Ocean Innovation will bring together researchers, regulators, policy- makers and innovators to explore advances in offshore survival training and technologies. Attend- ees and speakers will examine what changes and tools should be made available to those who are faced trying to survive in extreme ocean environments. Conference Program Ocean Innovation is a four-day, single-stream conference with a parallel exhibition. The conference program is by invitation only and is designed to ensure that a variety of theme-related issues are discussed and debated by partici- pants. Confirmed speakers for the 2012 conference include: RAdm. David Gardam of the Canadian Navy's Command Maritime Atlantic and the Joint Task Force Command Atlantic; Robert Wells, Q.C., commissioner of the Offshore Helicop- ter Safety Inquiry; Max Ruelokke, chair of the Canada-New- foundland and Labrador Offshore Petroleum Board; Adam Er- land of the Canadian Coast Guard; Jill Hepburn of the Royal National Lifeboat Institute; Michel Du Charme of the Cana- dian Department of National Defense; and Sue Coleshaw of SRK Coleshaw (Aberdeenshire, Scotland). Ocean Innovation will look at some of the greatest trag- edies and survivals in marine emergencies and the extreme conditions that survivors had to endure, and examine inno- vations for enhancing safety and survival in extreme ocean conditions.
