46 st / February 2017 www.sea-technology.com Phantom V Wins Phuket 2016 Kings Cup Regatta Phantom V, a stealth 13s built by Asia Catamarans and designed by Alan Carwardine, won the 2016 Kings Cup Regatta. The Kings Cup was started in 1987 by Thailand's yachting fraternity as a special tribute to the King's 60th birthday. Colligo Marine was featured with their Standing Rigging and Colligo Dux Shrouds on the yacht. Airmar Acquires Materials Systems Inc. Airmar Technology Corp. has acquired the assets of the former Materials Systems Inc. (MSI) group located in Lit- tleton, Massachusetts, from Channel Technologies Group (CTG). "The integration of our piezoceramic transducers and sensor technology coupled with MSI's piezocomposite transducer offerings enables us to diversify our product line and significantly broaden our offerings to the commercial and defense markets," Matthew Boucher, Airmar's president and COO, said. "We are excited to add the MSI team to the Airmar family." Deep Trekker Relocating Office in Waterloo Region Deep Trekker is relocating their head office to a larg- er manufacturing facility to accommodate the increasing demand for their underwater ROVs and Pipe Crawlers. The new facility in Kitchener-Waterloo, Canada, is an 8,000-sq.-ft. building (compared to the 3,000-sq.-ft. manu- facturing facility) that will help improve safety, reduce costs and save time. There they will continue to build portable, commercial-grade and easy-to-use robotic systems. Panama Canal Welcomes Largest Capacity Vessel to Date In December, the Panama Canal welcomed Hapag- Lloyd's Valparaiso Express, the largest capacity vessel to date to transit the expanded locks. The 10,589-TEU Neopanamax containership was made to take advantage of the greater capacity offered by the Expanded Panama Canal. The vessel was constructed with an environmen- tally friendly land-side shore connection, which allows the auxiliary diesels on board to be switched off while in port. In addition, the vessel features a fuel-efficient 46,530-hp main engine with an emissions-reducing valve control and ballast water treatment units on board in accordance with the new International Ballast Water Management Conven- tion, which purify the ship's ballast water without the use of harmful chemicals. ABS-Classed VLEC Loads First Ethane Shipment ABS-classed Ethane Crystal, the first very large ethane carrier (VLEC), has loaded its first shipment of ethane cargo at the Enterprise Products Partner's Morgan's Point Terminal. The vessel operates on a trade route between the U.S. and India, carrying ethane to be used as feedstock for petro- chemical production. ocean business P.O.
