oceanbusiness Ocean Power Technologies, Lockheed Martin To Develop Wave-Energy Project in Australia Pennington, New Jersey-based Ocean Power Technolo gies Inc. (OPT) and Lockheed Martin (Bethesda, Maryland) have partnered to develop a 19-megawatt wave-energy project in Portland in the state of Victoria, Australia. Lockheed Martin will assist with the design of OPT Power- Buoy, lead the production and system integration of the wave- energy converters and support program management. The project leverages a $65.3 million (USD) grant from the Com- monwealth of Australia. The project is to be developed by Vic- torian Wave Partners Pty Ltd. (Melbourne, Australia), owned by Ocean Power Technologies (Australasia) Pty Ltd. (Mel- bourne). University of Maryland Makes Recently Ordered REMUS 600 AUV Available for Charter Horn Point Laboratory at the University of Maryland Center for Environmental Science has purchased a Hydroid Inc. (Pocasset, Massachusetts) REMUS 600 AUV, which will be available for charter by researchers for studies of coastal and near-coastal environments, Hydroid said in June. The lab's REMUS 600 will include forward and aft hovering modules, a second onboard payload computer to implement user-developed autonomy algorithms and a nitrate sensor for real-time measurements. Liquid Robotics, Schlumberger Form Joint Venture To Deploy Wave Gliders in Oil and Gas Industry Liquid Robotics Inc. (Sunnyvale, California) and Schlum - berger (Houston, Texas) in June created Liquid Robotics Oil & Gas (Houston), a joint venture to develop oil and gas in- dustry services using Liquid Robotics' Wave Glider AUVs. The companies have equal ownership of the joint venture. Liquid Robotics Oil & Gas will provide metrology and oceanography surveillance, containment loss detection, and subsea and broadband communications gateway services. VCT HarborScan UUV Gets L3-Klein Sonar A HarborScan UUV, manufactured by Vehicle Control Technologies (VCT) based in Reston, Virginia, equipped with L-3 Klein's (Salem, New Hampshire) UUV 3500 side scan sonar, is now available to the AUV and UUV commercial and military markets, the companies announced in July. The two-man portable HarborScan has completed accept- ance testing with NOAA and is now considered fully opera- tional. Depth-rated to 300 meters, HarborScan is designed for disaster response, coastal surveys, environmental assess- ments, harbor security, improvised explosive device identifi- cation, search and salvage, and hull scanning.
