The SPRINT Inertial Navigation Systems (INS) and Syrinx Dop- pler Velocity Logs (DVLs) will be held at the company headquarters in Aberdeen and made available to support survey and construction projects using ROVs and AUVs in water depths of up to 4,000 m. Ecoslops, Total Partner to Develop a Maritime Oil Residue Processing Plant Ecoslops has announced the signing of a memoran- dum of understanding with Total, forming a partnership to set up a maritime transport induced oil residue waste- processing plant near Marseille, France. A detailed study and research with regard to the final investment will be done in 2017. Moorside Site Investigations Approach Final Stages NuGeneration Ltd. (NuGen) is planning to build a nu- clear power station of up to 3.8-GW capacity at Moor- side in West Cumbria, England. To facilitate the project, NuGen is undertaking a program of works and studies to provide information on the Moorside site's characteristics. Fugro is carrying out onshore and offshore site character- ization involving geotechnical, hydrological, topographi- cal, geophysical and geoenvironmental data acquisition. In addition to informing design and layout of the site, data will support licensing, planning applications and other consents for the construction of the power station. AXYS Partners with GeoMarine AXYS Technologies announces the appointment of Geomarine as their new value-added reseller in Italy. The AXYS range of metocean solutions, including the TRIAXYS family of wave buoys, complements the existing Geoma- rine range of offerings, enabling them to extend their ca- pacity to support the Italian offshore assessment sector. The Nautical Institute releases Second Edition Of 'Improving' Ship Operational Design Hoping to make maritime operations safer and more effective, the second edition of 'Improving' Ship Opera- tional Design was launched at the Royal Institution of Na- val Architects' conference. Much of the new edition is the result of the European Union research program CyClaDes, which looked at the design and operation of ships and ship systems. The book gives insight on the needs of a shipowner, operational requirements, onboard living re- quirements and user-centered perspectives. MacGregor Organizes First Hackathon MacGregor has organized an open innovation hack- athon event at the Interschalt Marine Center near Ham- burg, Germany, November 11 to 13. Called "Hack the Sea," the goal of this hackathon is to explore and ex- periment with new opportunities to reduce waste in the maritime industry. The event is organized with Industry- hack.
