Social Events Along with the technical offerings, this year's Annual Meeting also offers a variety of social events for attendees, including: a golf tournament Sunday, October 16 at Cow- boys Golf Club (registration required); the student and early career lounge Sunday, October 16 to Wednesday, October 19 in the Expo hall; a guest program October 17 to October 19 that features tours of Dallas attractions; the SEG 2016 president's reception/honors and award ceremony Tues- day, October 18; and a wrap-up party at the Omni Hotel Wednesday, October 19 from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. The SEG app for smartphones will have a new look to match the 2016 Annual Meeting design and feature bet- ter usability. ST SEG Dallas ST Conference Preview A scene from the exhibit floor of the last SEG Annual Meeting in New Orleans. T he Society of Exploration Geophysi- cists (SEG) will gather in the heart of Texas for its International Exposi- tion and 86th Annual Meeting Oc- tober 16 to 21. The Annual Meeting is one of the year's most anticipated events, bringing together more than 8,500 attendees from 70 countries, representing the fields of glob- al oil, gas and mineral exploration to new areas of civil engineering, environmental regulation and archaeology. Highlights This year's meeting will be held at the Kay Bailey Hutchi- son Convention Center, and like prior Annual Meetings, this year boasts an array of sessions, workshops and net- working opportunities to appeal to all attendees. This year, attendees will choose from more than 1,100 presentations in the technical program, which includes 91 oral sessions, 24 oral discussion/e-presentation sessions and 25 poster sessions topics. The event kicks off Sunday, October 16 with the ice- breaker reception and expo preview from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. On Monday, October 17, Dave Hager, president and CEO, Devon Energy Corp., will present "The Importance of Tech- nology on All Commodity Cycles" during the opening ses- sion and presidential address. The Annual Meeting will expand on many of last year's successful initiatives, including registration and self-serve kiosks for check-in and badge printing; childcare services for attendees; and on-site attendee surveys for improved and increased feedback. The post-convention workshops, held Thursday and Friday, October 20 and 21, will focus on tools that include "Low Cost Geophysics: How to be creative in a cost-challenged environment" and "4D Part 2—Reservoir surveillance in a lower for longer world." Offerings and Features SEG boasts several offerings for this year's conference attendees that include a Women's Networking Evening Event, featuring a Pioneers in Geophysics poster session highlighting pioneering women in geophysics on Mon- day, October 17; a members-only breakfast Wednesday, October 19; the Near Surface Technical Section evening reception Tuesday, October 18; a new China Pavilion and near new surface pavilion; and the high-performance computing pavilion and theater.
