54 st / May 2016 www.sea-technology.com Seatronics Chooses Gemini 720is Tritech International Ltd. announced that Seatronics is the frst rental compa- ny to choose its next-generation Gemini 720is multibeam imaging sonar. Addi- tionally, the multibeam imaging sonar will be used on Predator, a portable inspection-class ROV. The new Gemini 720is combines the benefts of high-defnition imaging with long-range target detection, mak- ing it ideal for AUV and ROV platforms, including installation on pan-and-tilt units. With a new body shape and en- hanced electronics, the Gemini 720is continues to offer real-time visualiza- tion and a fast update rate of 30 Hz across a 120° feld of view. Familiar features such as an integrated velocity of sound (VOS) sensor and near-range focus remain, and the sonar is now in- tegrated with Ethernet communications as standard (VDSL and dual communi- cation units are also available). Tritech's standalone Gemini soft- ware package now enables operation of all Tritech multibeam Gemini imagers and the Gemini profler from one dedi- cated software platform. New features include basic target tracking, (includ- ing SeeByte advanced target tracking), a distance marker tool and enhanced data recording/playback and screen capture options. NI Accredits GE DP STR Course The Nautical Institute (NI) has ac- credited GE to conduct a dynamic po- sitioning (DP) sea time reduction (STR) course in its modern DP training cen- ter in Houston. With this accreditation, GE's Marine Technical Training Center has joined an exclusive list of only 13 DP schools worldwide that are accred- ited to provide STR courses, according to GE. The accreditation allows trainee DP operators (DPOs) to receive credit of 30 days of DP sea time when they com- plete fve days of intensive training in the DP simulator. Using GE's advanced DP simulator, the company can provide the trainees with a selection of sce- narios that help prepare the DPOs for a multitude of possible situations that they may encounter when engaged in DP operations. GE's Marine Solutions' DP simulator received the NI's Class A Certifcation in June 2015. Four C-Worker 5 ASVs Built ASV has completed the construc- tion of four C-Worker 5 vehicles. These ASVs will be added to the company's global lease pool in the second quarter of 2016. While the C-Worker 5 can accom- modate a variety of client payloads and applications, it was specifcally de- signed as a hydrographic survey force multiplier. The C-Worker 5 is 5 m long and can operate at 7 kt. for fve days before re- fueling. This speed/range combination maximizes acquisition effectiveness while minimizing launch and recovery operations. As a force multiplier, it can oper- ate concurrently alongside traditional survey vessels, dramatically increasing survey effciency. marine electronics
