Guangzhou Port Group Opens Offce in U.S. Guangzhou Port America, LLC in partnership with Guang- zhou Port Group announced the commencement of their ex- pansion to capitalize on strong demand for additional origin port options for importers, exporters, 3pl's and ocean carriers. "This new partnership will be a strong option for many shippers looking to diversify their selection for a full-service origin port," said John Painter, president and CEO, Guang- zhou (Nansha) Port America. Removal of Derelict Fishing Gear Has Major Economic Impact A new study by researchers at the Virginia Institute of Ma- rine Science (VIMS) shows that a six-year program to remove derelict crab pots from lower Chesapeake Bay generated more than $20 million in harvest value for area watermen. Lead author Andrew Scheld, an assistant professor at VIMS, said, "Our study shows that VIMS' collaborative efforts to re- move ghost crab pots from the lower Bay led to an additional 13,504 metric tons in harvest valued at $21.3 million—a 27 percent increase." Leading Marina Companies Unite To Form Safe Harbor Marinas Safe Harbor Marinas, a company formed in 2015 and backed by American Infrastructure MLP Funds (AIM), made its formal debut as the largest owner and operator of marinas in the United States at the International Marina and Boatyard Conference. The company currently owns/manages 31 marinas across 12 states totaling over 20,000 wet and dry slips and is cur- rently processing additional acquisitions in its pipeline. EdgeTech Signs Distribution Agreement EdgeTech has signed an agreement with Equipment and Consulting for Hydrographic Operations (ECHO81) to act as an exclusive 6205 MPES Representative for the Americas. ECHO81, a distributor of marine survey instrumentation, offers equipment, installation, training and support services focused on hydrographic survey operations. Subsea Global Solutions Opens Texas Offce Subsea Global Solutions (SGS) announced that the com- pany has opened a new offce in Texas to address growing demand for SGS services in the U.S. Gulf Coast oil, gas and commercial shipping industries. The offce, in Webster, Texas, near Houston, will help SGS support its expanding rapid-response maintenance, inspec- tion and repair program to meet the needs of clients on the Gulf Coast, and in the Houston and Galveston areas.
