DHS SAVER Gives Top Rating to Pulse 8X JW Fishers Pulse 8X has been rated the best underwater metal detector by the U.S. Department of Homeland Se- curity's (DHS) System Assessment and Validation for Emergency Responders (SAVER) program, established to assist emergency responders making procure- ment decisions. The SAVER program conducts objective assessments and valida- tions on commercial equipment and systems and provides those results, along with other relevant equipment information, to the emergency re- sponder community. Radar, ECDIS Installed On Maritime Training Ship Radio Holland, part of the newly formed company RH Marine Group, has completed the installation of new radar and ECDIS equipment on the bridge of the training ship of the Cali- fornia Maritime Academy. Radio Holland will also provide training for the cadets on the vessel's new systems and carry out mainte- nance in the future. ESA Project to Capture Environmental Data A-SeNS is a European Space Agency (ESA) funded project that aims to dem- onstrate the capture of environmental data by satellite. The project extends OceanWise's Environmental Data Sharing and Publishing capability by enabling data captured by monitoring stations and managed in Port-Log to be transmitted via an AIS transceiver. The satellites are operated by exactEarth Eu- rope, which is leading the project. The project involves adding new software code to OceanWise's Smart Telemetry Unit, thus saving space and power in a fully integrated system. The code packages the data according to the International Maritime Organiza- tion's TideMet specifcation and allows the data to be received locally by ves- sels, as well as by the exactEarth satel- lites. The data can then be shared for navigation, survey and other maritime operations. HBOI Exhibit on Ocean Exploration Tech FAU Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute (HBOI) unveiled its frst rotat- ing exhibit, featuring the tools HBOI scientists and engineers use to explore the ocean. The exhibit is on view at the new gallery at the Ocean Discovery Visitor's Center in Fort Pierce, Florida. "Sight, Sound and Dynamics in the Sea: The Role of Technology in Ocean Exploration" is the frst in a series of ex- hibits under HBOI's "Mission: Ocean Discovery" program. The exhibit pres- ents a view into the innovative technol- ogy being developed at HBOI, where researchers are making groundbreaking discoveries every day. The exhibit will remain open to the public through August.
