(ENL) will achieve a signifcant milestone throughout 2016 when the company celebrates 70 years of operation. Formed in December 1945, the company started as a small public company by Dr. Russel Thomas and Mr. Dun- can Cox. Seventy years later, the ENL Group company operates between its three offces in Auckland and Nelson and more recently a satellite offce in Europe supporting its locally manufactured global brand WASSP multibeam sonar. Chief Executive of The Nautical Institute Awarded OBE Philip Wake has been appointed an Ordinary Offcer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the U.K.'s New Year's Honors' List for his services to the maritime industry. Wake was elected a fellow of The Nautical Institute in 1996, and became chairman of the voluntary London Branch. He became the chief executive in May 2003. ABB Services More Than 300 Turbochargers for China ABB Turbocharging has signed its third and largest op- eration performance package service agreement with China Shipping Container Lines (CSCL). The contract covers the service and provision of spare parts for 113 turbochargers on 23 vessels, including 51 TPL- type and 62 VTR-type turbochargers. Wärtsilä to Supply Waterjets For the KatExpress 3 The Incat Tasmania Pty shipyard in Hobart, Australia, has chosen Wärtsilä waterjets and controls for a new fast ferry, the KatExpress 3. The yard has previously specifed Wärtsilä waterjets for a number of fast-ferry projects. The KatExpress 3 is a 109-m-long catamaran capable of carrying around 1,000 passengers and with capacity for 411 cars or a mix of trucks, vans and cars. Load Cells Weigh RNLI Equipment For Saving Lives The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI) uses a load cell to weigh and test boats and other components critical to the ongoing work of the charity that saves lives at sea. Manufactured from aerospace-grade aluminium and uti- lizing an advanced internal design structure, the range of nonindicating load cells are lightweight, easy to handle and are used worldwide in an array of industries for lifting, pull- ing, proof and structural load testing. BSM Unveils New Mooring Station Training Facility Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) has opened its new state-of-the-art mooring station training facility, designed to provide seafarers and cadets with experience of this crucial and potentially hazardous area of operations. The facility is based at Subic Bay in the Philippines and is designed to work in conjunction with a comprehensive, inter- active training portfolio comprising video learning and class discussion around case studies from real-life scenarios. IMarEST Supports Mentoring Program in Singapore The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Tech- nology (IMarEST) has joined with the Industry Mentors' Network (IMN) program, seeing frst-year polytechnic stu- dents linked with industry professionals to gain access to career advice and industry networking. The program seeks to provide greater opportunities for education and career guidance and to get students in Singapore to think about career aspirations early in their polytechnic education. Students will receive early advice from their mentors on what it takes for them to achieve their career goals and how to chart their career roadmaps. Ocean Signal Appoints Marinplus as Exclusive Distributor in Sweden Ocean Signal has appointed Marinplus AB as its exclu- sive distributor in Sweden. Marinplus will supply a compre- hensive range of Ocean Signal products, including its res- cueME devices and SafeSea portfolio of GMDSS products. "We are looking forward to working with Marinplus to further increase sales and awareness so that we can maxi- mize all the opportunities for our rescueME and SafeSea products in Sweden," said Alan Wrigley, managing director of Ocean Signal. ClassNK Opens New Survey Offce in Russia ClassNK has opened a new exclusive survey offce in Novorossiysk, Russia. Novorossiysk is a port city in south- west Russia facing the Black Sea. The Novorossiysk offce joins an existing network of sur- vey offces throughout the region, including in Constanta, Romania, and Istanbul,Turkey. The strategic positioning of the Novorossiysk offce will allow ClassNK to swiftly re- spond to the recent increase in clients' needs across the Black Sea. DMCA Highlights Key Opportunities In Dubai's Maritime Sector Dubai Maritime City Authority (DMCA) showcased the emirate as a frst-class maritime hub and an attractive desti- nation for maritime companies to a global audience during the high-profle London International Shipping Week. DMCA presented a detailed insight about the strengths of Dubai's maritime sector, which has steadily positioned itself to be among the world's top maritime centers. The frst-of-its-kind Dubai Maritime Sector Strategy (DMSS), es- tablished to regulate, develop and promote the maritime industry, was also discussed. DVL Additions for STR Subsea Technology and Rentals (STR) recently confrmed the addition of two Sonardyne Syrinx Doppler Velocity Logs (DVLs) to their expanding rental inventory. The Sonardyne Syrinx differs from other DVLs through its use of fully linear signal processing, low-noise electronics and adaptive bottom lock. These features enable Syrinx to operate at altitudes over 50 percent higher than conven- tional 600-kHz DVLs, with the high-resolution performance of a 1,200-kHz DVL.
