www.sea-technology.com February 2016 / st 43 ing the quality of the data and resulting actionable informa- tion. To address that need, EdgeTech has most recently been producing new systems and solutions and combining tech- nologies once only available in standalone confgurations. One notable technology that has been incorporated in pole- mount solutions, ROV-mounted systems, AUV systems and, most recently, a 6,000-m-rated deep tow and a small ASV is the MPES bathymetry technology. The EdgeTech MPES bathymetry system produces real-time, high-resolution, 3D maps of the seafoor, while providing an enhanced and fully integrated swath bathymetry and dual-frequency side scan sonar system. The MPES technology is a hybrid approach to overcome the limitations of multibeam echosounders and interferometric systems in shallow water by combining both beamforming and phase discrimination to determine each sounding along the seafoor. MPES incorporates Full Spec- trum technology to exceed IHO SP-44, NOAA and USACE specifcations for feature detection and bathymetric point data uncertainty. These two technologies enable the pole- mounted 6205 MPES and AUV/ROV 2205 MPES to produce a wider and cleaner swath (over 200º) to complete surveys faster and safer by providing superior coverage, rejection of multipath effects, reverberation, and acoustic noise com- monly encountered in the shallow-water environment. Additional tools and techniques recently developed by the company to help surveyors improve effciency include trifrequency side scan sonar systems available for AUVs, towed and pole-mounted motion tolerant sonar systems for operation in more weather conditions, and dual-frequency sub-bottom systems with customized chirp, ping-pong and quadratic pulses. On the vessel side of the sonar op- erations, the EdgeTech 3300 hull mount sub-bottom profling systems are now available with PVDF receive hydro- phones and unique EdgeTech dual- frequency sub-bottom technology for better sub-bottom profling from large vessels. Team EdgeTech is proud to have some of the top design, manufacturing, testing and service people employed in the acoustic and oceanographic equipment industry. In addi- tion to its staff of approximately 100 dedicated profession- als, the company maintains a worldwide network of value- added resellers, manufacturer representatives and offcial customer service centers. EdgeTech and its extended team provide support to customers all over the world, including oil, gas and offshore renewable groups; fsheries, science and underwater research organizations; police, fre and search and recovery teams; defense and security groups; hydrographic survey companies; and many other offshore- focused organizations. People use the EdgeTech products all over the world for applications such as hydrographic sur- veys, underwater cable and pipeline surveys, channel clear- ance surveys, pre- and post-dredge review, geological and geophysical surveys, mine hunting, and search and recov- ery, to name just a few. It's been an exciting 50 years in the world of underwater technology. EdgeTech has been a leading solutions provider in this industry over that time and continues to innovate and provide cutting-edge acoustic imaging products and acous- tic command and control systems to the market. A num- ber of new technologies and products are in development at EdgeTech, and the company is excited to see how they will contribute to the industry over the next 50 years. If the past is any indicator, EdgeTech expects to see many of its customers continuing to use their current side scan sonars, sub-bottom proflers, bathymetry systems, acoustic releases products and USBL systems for the next 50 years.
