SURF Budgets Go Further With Accredited Products Global deepwater buoyancy and polymer specialist Bal- moral Offshore engineering has been approved by Bureau Veritas in line with American Petroleum Institute specifca- tion for its SURF-related bend stiffeners and restrictors. Bend restrictors prevent overbending at the interface between fowlines, umbilicals, cables and rigid structures by mechanically locking up. Unlike bend stiffeners, they only provide protection once the pipe has achieved the desired bend radius between the fexible line and rigid structure. Kalmar, VIG to Deploy First Hybrid Shuttle Carriers in US Kalmar has delivered three hybrid shuttle carriers or- dered by the Port of Virginia in late 2014 to Virginia Inter- national Gateway terminal (VIG) in Portsmouth. The hy- brid technology developed by Kalmar for cargo-handling equipment signifcantly reduces diesel fuel consumption, emissions and engine noise levels. Kalmar hybrid shuttle carriers offer stability, safety, and maneuverability fea- tures. Kirby Corp. Selects ABS as Subchapter M Solutions Provider ABS, a provider of maritime shipping and offshore classifcation services, has been selected by Kirby Corp. to provide classifcation and International Safety Manage- ment certifcation for 11 push boats. Under the requirements proposed, but not yet enacted, by the U.S. Coast Guard, towing vessel companies will be required to receive a Certifcate of Inspection and comply with a new set of regulations relating to the construction and operations of safety equipment and record keeping. Irving Shipbuilding to Construct First Canada Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship Production has begun on two units for the center sec- tion of the frst Arctic Offshore Patrol ship for Canada. Welders, pipeftters, marine fabricators and iron workers are among the trades involved in the process, using the new state-of-the-art panel line. The ship is the frst of up to 21 vessels that will renew Canada's combatant feet over the next 30 years under the National Shipbuilding Procurement Strategy. Irving Shipbuilding has built more than 80 percent of Canada's current combatant ships. ST
