The coring phase will follow to collect approximately 200 seabed cores and 15 heat fow mea- surements. Ceona Partners with Interoil Angola in West Africa Ceona, SURF contractor with heavy subsea construction capabili- ties, has expanded its West African reach after entering into a strategic partnership with Interoil Angola Lda. The partnership will see Interoil Angola, which is a key player in off- shore support vessel management in West Africa, support Ceona's plans to expand into Angola. Ceona is already active in West Af- rica through its Ceona-Seaweld joint venture in Ghana, as well as the com- pany's strategic partnership with Ma- rine Platforms Ltd. in Nigeria. Ceona's Amazon hybrid vessel can execute complex logistical projects in remote, harsh and deepwater territo- ries. Designed to deliver full fexible or full rigid pipelay, it can change eas- ily and quickly between each mode and is extremely weather resilient. With a deck area of 4,600 sq. m and the ability to carry 9,500 te of pipe on deck and in its two holds, the Amazon is custom designed for full deepwater feld development needs. Miko Patches Enable In-Situ Vessel Repair BW Offshore successfully used Miko magnetic patches to repair cracks in the hull plating in the engine room of the FPSO Abo operating off the Nigerian coast. Conventional repair techniques would have required the vessel to enter dry dock for repair or have a costly, time-consuming exterior habi- tat built over the work location so the leak could be repaired permanently with the vessel in situ. Instead, working with the Miko patches and a six-man dive team made it possible to weld the cracks from inside the engine room. The magnetic patches, called Miko Plasters, are manufactured by a pro- cess that mixes rare earth particles with an exceptionally strong blend of Nitrile rubber. A fnished patch will weigh 10 kg/sq. m, so an addi- tional layer of buoyancy material is also laminated to the patch so that it can be easily handled underwater by divers. These two layers are then lami- nated onto an external fabric manu- factured from high-strength PVC. The patches were kept in place on the hull for more than six months, during which time a range of structur- al engineering tasks were completed in the engine room area. Prep Piles for Culzean Wellhead Platform Jacket During its frst commercial ap- plication, the new Vibro Lifting Tool (VLT) of CAPE Holland successfully installed four piles in up to 90 m wa- ter depth. This installation is part of the prepiling project for the Culzean Wellhead Platform jacket to be in- stalled next year. The VLT was used as a stabbing tool to install all four piles in one sequence to stable depth through a template without any tool change. Negating the need for a tool change meant it was possible to in- stall all the piles in just one 12-hr. shift to the predicted penetration depths, which resulted in signifcant time saving.
