www.sea-technology.com March 2015 / st 51 GAC Houston Warehouse Achieves Foreign Trade Zone Status A license to operate as a foreign trade zone has been awarded to GAC in Houston, Texas, making it one of just two logistics companies in the city to meet the criteria re- quired to operate such a special facility. Foreign trade zones are secure areas under the supervi- sion of the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection, designed to encourage foreign commerce. OceanServer Receives Contracts for AUVs OceanServer Technology (Fall River, Massachusetts) an- nounced that it has received orders for six new Iver AUVs from three different customers. Four systems will be deliv- ered to YSI/Xylem (Yellow Springs, Ohio) for use in water quality application utilizing the YSI Sonde 6-Series sensors. The second customer, Johns Hopkins University, recently took delivery of their frst Iver3-580 system for research pur- poses. Johns Hopkins currently operates two Iver2 AUVs. The fnal system was delivered to Heriot-Watt University in Edinburgh, Scotland. New Ocean-Bottom Marine Project Awards SAExploration Holdings Inc. (Calgary, Canada) an- nounced new project awards for ocean-bottom marine seismic data acquisition services collectively valued at ap- proximately $45 million. The company expects to execute the projects during the second and third quarters of 2015. These projects will be performed using ocean-bottom nodal seismic recording technology equipped to operate in water depths up to 3,000 meters deep. AAPA Welcomes Tentative Chassis Agreement The American Association of Port Authorities (Alexan- dria, Virginia) welcomed news that negotiators for the Pa- cifc Maritime Association (San Francisco, California) and the International Longshore and Warehouse Union (San Francisco) have reached a tentative agreement on chassis maintenance and repair, a key issue in concluding a new waterfront contract at West Coast ports. Overall, across the nation, cargo moving through Ameri- ca's ports is responsible for more than 13 million jobs. Record Year for Port Authority The Port of Houston Authority (PHA), based in Hous- ton, Texas, set records for both steel and container cargo in 2014, Executive Director Roger Guenther announced. In a report to the Port Commission of the Port of Hous- ton Authority at its monthly meeting, Guenther said PHA's terminals handled more than 37 million tons of cargo last year, which marked an increase of 5 percent compared to the previous year and also set a record. Savannah Tops 3.3 million TEUs The Georgia Ports Authority (Garden City, Georgia) ended 2014 with growth in all cargo sectors, including a 10.2 percent increase in 20-foot equivalent container units (TEUs) and a 7.4 percent increase in total tonnage. December helped to lift the Port of Savannah to 3.34 mil- lion TEUs for the year, an increase of 312,037 TEUs over 2013.
