The WindSentinel is now ready and awaiting the fnal deployment location to be determined by the Navy. Sound & Sea Technology will provide management of the program, coordination with the Navy, ocean engineering expertise, environmental planning and installation support. DNV GL will provide an independent evaluation of the validity of the foating lidar system by identifying measure- ment requirements and metrics to qualify the system for use in wind power development. MBDA to Provide Sea Ceptor for New Zealand Navy ANZAC Upgrade The New Zealand Ministry of Defence signed a contract with MBDA (Paris, France) for the provision of Sea Ceptor for the Local Area Air Defence element of the Royal New Zealand Navy's ANZAC Frigate Systems Upgrade project. It confrms the selection of the system by the Navy for its AN- ZAC frigates that was announced in October 2013. Huntington Ingalls Acquires UniversalPegasus Huntington Ingalls Industries (Newport News, Virginia), HII, has acquired UniversalPegasus International Holdings (Houston, Texas), a provider of engineering and project management services to the domestic and international en- ergy markets. UPI will be a subsidiary of HII, reporting to Chris Kastner, corporate vice president and general manager of corporate development. n Raytheon to Upgrade Phalanx CIWS for US Navy The U.S. Navy awarded Raytheon Co. (Waltham, Mas- sachusetts) a $115.5 million contract to remanufacture, overhaul and provide upgrades to Phalanx Close-in Weap- on Systems (CIWS). The CIWS is an integral element of the Navy's Fleet Defense In-Depth concept and the Ship Self- Defense Program. Work under the contract, which was signed during the second quarter of 2014, is expected to be completed by September 2017. Northrop Grumman to Provide Support To Joint Staff J7 Directorate for JFD The U.S. Naval Supply Fleet Logistics Center has selected Northrop Grumman Corp. (Falls Church, Virginia) as one of the seven prime contractors to continue providing logis- tics, intelligence and technology support to the Joint Staff J7 Directorate for Joint Force Development (JFD) in Suffolk, Virginia. The multiple award, indefnite delivery, indefnite quantity contract, has a potential value of $877 million over fve years, if all options are exercised. Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide planning and execution of joint events, collective and indi- vidual joint training, joint and coalition operational analy- sis, joint doctrine, joint deployment training center, service joint training environment, and joint knowledge online. OceanWorks Upgrades ADS For Italian Navy OceanWorks International (Houston, Texas) conducted a major system upgrade of the Italian Navy's Atmospheric Diving Systems (ADS). The enhancements to the HARDSUIT System are focused on thruster and buoyancy, and electron- ics and communications. To accommodate the change in physical confguration and weight distribution of this system, OceanWorks pack- aged the thruster upgrade with a redesigned buoyancy and backpack system. MKU Joins F-125 German Frigate Project For Improved Survivability MKU GmbH (Sittensen, Germany) is working on the Baden Wurttemberg-class frigate project F-125, which is being built for the German Navy by the German shipyards Thyssenkrupp (Essen, Germany) and Lürssen (Bremen-Vege- sack, Germany) at a cost of more than €650 million each. This project features enhanced survivability, ensuring that the ships remain operational in spite of severe damage due to accident or enemy action. AXYS Completes WindSentinel Precommissioning for US Navy AXYS Technologies Inc. (Sidney, Canada) has completed precommissioning of a WindSentinel platform for the U.S. Navy project to validate an offshore foating lidar wind re- source assessment system.
