Celebrating 50 years of serving the global ocean community 1963-2013 1967 A bird���s-eye view of Rand McNally���s 6-foot geophysical relief globe looking toward the Atlantic Ocean. 1969 An artist���s rendition of a new transportable habitat to be operated at Makai Range Inc. in Hawaii. Built by Pittsburgh-Des Moines Steel Co., the system is designed to support four men for 20 days at depths to 580 feet. 1968 A watercolor by Pierre Mion depicts the RV Gulfrex, believed to be the largest privately owned ship of its kind. It was designed and built by Ocean Science & Engineering Inc. 1970 These oceanography stamps from around the world were part of a collection owned by Mel Light, Coast Guard oceanographer.
